With the introduction of the new LP560-4 Gallardo at the recent Geneva Motor Show Lamborghini has officially ended production of its Superleggera model. The lightweight Gallardo was only introduced one year prior but it was always meant to be a limited edition model and room was needed at the Sant’ Agata plant for Lambo’s latest model.

The Superleggera, Italian for “lightweight”, was a stripped-out race car built for the roads. The car weighed 70kg (154.4 pounds) less than the standard Gallardo thanks to an extensive weight saving program which included removing unnecessary comfort features from the cabin and replacing some items with carbon fiber.

The car also featured an upgraded engine with a revised ECU as well as a new light weight exhaust system and throttle body. Final specs read 530hp and 510Nm of torque with a kerb weight of 1369kg (2998.8 pounds), and this meant it could accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 315km/h.

By contrast, the new LP560-4 sports a 552hp engine and is even quicker to 100km/h, with a claimed time of 3.7 seconds and top speed of 325km/h.
